Digging for the nugget

Maybe you know the great song "In the days of old, in the days of gold, in the days of '49".

It's about digging for nuggets. I am a musician and I am digging for licks. Not a hard work to do. You only need time and many, many tries. Writing 100 songs in a year or in a month. The secret is not to interrupt the flow if the gate is open. My little PCM-recorder does not disturb me like a software with plenty of task...

Let us assume: one day in 40 years you'll find your nugget. (Who knows?). What would you do? Give it away? For what reason? Show the nugget to the barkeeper? Keep it secret at your grave?

I know many people are digging for a big nugget. What will you do if you find it?

Will you remember the old advice: "Don't give your gold away!"? Haven't found a good answer yet. Satisfying answer.

I know we lost the bank to change nuggets to dollars and this will not change in the next decades. But we are still digging.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Hey Nick, I always enjoy reading your posts even though I never understand a word. But I like the melody. I hope someone licks your nugget soon and you won't have to bank 40 years waiting.

Yes, that's exactly, what I also would do with a "nugget".

C'mon folks, it is not that hard to understand what neronick is asking here - it is a common question among striving alchemists: What do I do with the gold once I have created it?
It has remained open for discussion due to commonly known reasons (creating gold does not happen, for those who do not know).
Looking for an answer, I have thought about the other camp of gold handling folks that might have some hints to an answer, and as I recon, they rather believe in finding gold than in creating it, which generally seems to come along with both quite a lot of effort (digging) and a lot of luck (gold being present at the diggers claim).
They also advertise a certain need for expertise when it comes to identifying gold, statistics show that those who couldn't tell the difference between gold and rock were significantly less successfull gold diggers.
As for the handling of the found gold, we can safely say that people do tend to be quite carefull about it and build special, limited-access facilities to keep and store it.
This could be seen as a hint towards better not putting any musical nugget out in the open, which is why I am currently undecided if I will ever let anyone hear any note I play again.
Thinking about this, I cannot help the feeling of my very thoughts being -if not gold- at least as worthy as silver bars, and maybe I should reconsider sharing them freely... I'll have to speak to my north korean counsellor about this. Have a great weekend yall.

Thanks Dick. I hope you have enough humour to take my hint: YOU can't share your thoughts for free because you have to pay the server... :)

But all others should share ideas, opinions, feelings, music, iron, "stones", silver, gold, luck and community.

I believe there's no such thing like free food. And no free yellow beer, no never.

Let me suggest the following, nero - it may sound strange at first, but maybe you can benefit from this.
Why don't you go out to the woods and discuss the "there is no such thing as free food" topic with some blueberry bush.
Once you have nailed the business concept of the blueberry bush,
log on to the internet, google for some really existing non-free website (sorry, wikiloops is out, then) and share the experience there.

Heh, depends on what purpose you're creating music for I suppose.
If your goal is to be famous and have your own material an what not then it would be wise to hide your golden nuggets. Myself personally, I used to want to be a famous musician growing up or a rock star. But judging by all the symbolism in modern music I reject that idea whole heartidly. And instead hope my music helps others or takes them on a journey rather. Even though it's just ramblings on the guitar. There really is nothing new under the sun. If someone want's to steal others riffs then that's their own misfortune really.

Riffs have been stolen back and forth between famous players and nobodies since time immemorial ... nothing new about that. It's all good fun!! :)

One lesser known fact: The goldrush of 1849 led to terrific decrease in the value of gold. Quite obvious when you think about it, but does this apply musical nuggets as well?

Another famous "gold"-song came from Neil Young and I bet that you all know it.
He does not seem to point to the material gold.
So lets share our immaterial gold with the audience (e.g. the bar keeper ;)). That's where it belongs to.
But it maybe that this thread does not deal with music but with business & public relations? (wikiloops vs wikibiz?)

Interesting thoughts round here.
Objectivity is the point : a nugget can be gold to you but some others just see crumbles stuck around fish, and vice versa.
The only way to know is to smell the nugget ?

I think, the traditional way to evaluate the material of a nugget is, to bite on it, to feel if it is soft enough for being gold.
(btw. strange way to evaluate music,as strange as to judge by the odor) :D

to be fully honest this is all nonsense to me ... gold is just a metal and will only make you sick ! the real question in my opinion is this one : does your music sound, look and smell like raspberries ? and if it does then all right it's worth all the good on this planet and that's when sharing it is the best !

mmmm blueberry bushes are certainly an awsome chat if you want to speak free food and to tell you the truth they're also amazingly skilled on the ancient greek philosophers but as far as i can tell if you want to know anything about art you'd better turn to raspberries : they're the real specialists imho !!! ;)

Correct!

and will only make you sick
actually not entirely correct, gold is the only metal that is found in its metallic form in nature since it is not reactive, this is what gives it its desirable properties. And it will not(likely) react within your body.

But nevertheless it is a limited resource and as such overvalued. Unlike raspberries (and blueberries, and strawberries as well) which are completely renewable
