Hey!
I'm not the most active in singing but I like to do it sometimes.
I must have some words and I admire a lot those who can write easily lyrics.

Even for writing/singin'something, my feeling drives.
Most of the time, it comes to me through some "keywords" so I write them on paper and... Improvisation (rymes)
I don't like to do many takes neither :)

I've sung some Aleonz words too (with her permission) just because I want to play vocals!

My favorite one is "Carpet Predator" #73657 but for this one I had some pressure because of the featuring project with Mister Marceys :)
The concept was to be in a vaccum cleaner's head just after naming a song "Dust in corners". It took me many days to note some ideas here and there and at the end I had too much words and choice!! it became a full story and a real fun

I have already sung in French, French'glish, Americfrenchan, Spanish, Zulu and some "TooDooDa" and whatever the music style.

And it is also an oportunity to collaborate with Akchen <3 #86187 or to catch some friends Piper #73311 ivax #58506 or Uloisius #51492 ...

But I admit it's always a gift when a singer choose a tune where I play or the best: when a Template becomes a song.

Here we dare !

For me, I can't write a song and then place it to a melody. I have to feel and hear the music and then the story starts to wrap itself around the notes. Then I start writing them down. I write lyrics for each individual melody.

Let's go back to this topic. How does songwriting start?
It begins with a new day. Breakfast is finished and you fetch the guitar hanging at the wall.
What are the first three chords you play? The intro lick of "Proud Mary"? "Don't think twice"?
The truth is, I can't begin a day without playing something new. :)
I would never start with a cover song or an actual open recording work. Of course it's probably not really new but I can't remember where I used it before if I ever have done. Simply spoken, I am trying to play a variation of "Satisfaction" or "Paint it black". When I remember the sequence or the lick in my fingers I am looking for something inside to change or improve. Example given: Some days ago I changed a chord in the very first song I had written almost 50 years ago...you see, at this day I started with a "cover" I could remember easily. :)

As a "non-song writer" who hopefully can appreciate a good song, I'd like to add to Nickboy's comments. Style can certainly distinguish and sell a song, yet there are some songs that distinguish themselves. They belong to a rare category where the lyrics fit the music. 99% of songs I've heard recently don't have a good fit between the words and music, even though they may have style and the music can be good or even original.

Used to be that there were separate specialists for writing pop songs: the writer of the music and the lyricist. Also used to be that many of these excellent writers needed to have the other ingredient before they could get their creative juices flowing. E.g. the lyricist needed to hear the music to be inspired, or the other way around. In other words, there was a recognition of, or at least a desire to, make the words and music work together. Maybe it's time to strive for a bit more integrity between words and music? Doesn't matter if you have your favorite pen, reams of paper, or a computer. The creativity has to be there and a desire to communicate something through a musical medium that is greater than the individual processes or parts. Doesn't matter if it takes weeks or comes instantly...whatever works is fair.

There are songs that say nothing but musically are good songs ... musically. Nothing else

When I write a song, it is because I have something to say.

When I write a song in french, it is easy for me to express my ideas and feelings.

In english, I have to use a dictionnaty (words and rhymes) but all the time I try to reach the goal.

I start with the music (chords and melody) and then I compose the text. Music and words do fit together, I think, because it proceeds from the same source of inspiration.

Sometimes a poem written by somebody else hits me. When it happens I compose a music. Question of feelings.

Sometimes, I add text or music to wikiloop tracks. Again I try to say (music or lyrics) something that I feel.
