LittleWing I first heard it on cell phone at the grocery store and the giggling girl on Krashmirs mix really jumped out and I was like "We need to leave and go home somethings happening here."It was a good surprise and I do so enjoy when a track starts popping from adds. That used to be commen back in the day but its infrequent these days. I get excited.

Any issues with car audio start looking into "Saturation plugins" They add distortion but the good kind in the mid area. Its the secret sauce for mixes that not only sound good on regular speakers but also sound great in cars and cell phones. Saturation. Most have presets you can just select to get started. Saturation works on the midrange frequences and kind of bloats them Distortion is used to describe this "bloating".Its the secret to consistant mixes that sound good across multiple medium.Play with one and youll understand what it does.(Im catching the U2 nod all of sudden near the end...hahaha thats awesome)You guys gave me a little treasure chest filled with goodies. This is very inspiring.

LittleWing Oh and as far as just the performance I do have to say youve hit a stride so keep that up. Its probably to me my favorite performance of yours due to the backing harmonies. Man hit that creative stride. I love when someone is on fire creatively. +0

LittleWing the important thing that throws most people with car or phone audio is that most consumer electronics have a "scoop" in the midrange frequencies. Unless you spec a system its usually on the manufacturers spec sheet but noone reads that.
When you do a mix and it sounds great at the desktop and you take it to the car sometimes its a mess of boomy bass or the opposite...shrilly , tinny highs and where did the bass go.
What your hearing is your track caving in frequency wise. If you imagine the entire track as a wall of frequencies coming out evenly ideally, its like someone punched a hole in the center so its all caved in .

Sometimes its slightly high scooped which youll be more bassier and

sometimes punched in slightly lower in which higher frequencies is all you get.

So most people start fiddling with the treble and bass knobs to compensate not realizing their real problem is the center mid range area of the track isnt there.

Thats what saturation does is add support to the wall of your track so all the frequencies exit the scooped reciever and /or speakers evenly as a wall towards your ears.Hope that makes sense. Understand that and the rest is easy. Its also why people mock rappers in online forums .
"Someone tell me why my mix sounds great in headphones but on anything else it comes out like this..."
The usual reply is "what headphones you using to mix." When they answer "Dr Beats" they are ridiculed and mocked.

Studios always mix on flat frequency curve monitors which are honest with the audio and dont color or sweeten anything . Most consumer electronics scoop the mids and boost some other pleasing frequencies to make everything sound better and sweet but its not honest and thats what creates the confusion of why its good at the desk but not in the car.
A saturation plug in will have one or two presets that will work for you and be good enough and from then on youll just automatically add it to your effects chain on the master and keep selecting the same preset.

As far as why they scoop the mids out in electronics is that as far as EQ , low mids and hi mids are where you get muddiness and things become unclear. So instead of EQing the thing , manufacturers found it easier to just remove midrange and you get only two choices...treble or bass. Fuck the mids.

Must have been a suit and tie guy Harvard grad who decided to do that. Its stupid.
