Diesel fumes and the sound of a train
would carry him away.
So he took to the road in the month of May.
His mother shook her head and cried:
“Blues Boy, Blues Boy, where will you go?
Why do you roam so far from your home?”
With dust in his eyes,
he looked up at the sky:
“The plantation is not my home.
I can only tell you this.
I’ll find my way to Heaven.
I’ll build a bridge to bliss.”

Illness and age carried him away.
He took to the road in the month of May.
We shake our heads and cry:
“Blues Boy, Blues Boy, where will you go?

With sleep in his eyes, he replied:
“This world is not my home.
I can only tell you this.
I’ll find my way to Heaven.
I’ll build a bridge to bliss.”
