been working on the implementation of a junction to facebook, or call it an "app on facebook" (I'm still not too fond of that term I admit).
that has got me learning a lot about the inner system of facebook, and I must say theese guys have come up with an quite impressive system...
to make a long story short, I have learned how to hack my ways into the so called "open graph", so people who like and use Facebook and enjoy sharing news and stuff this way can add some more info to their profiles, this time about wikiloops :)
For people not using FB (there must be some left), it will be a little difficult to understand what the benefits are, and to those who dont like FB for some reason, I guess its most important to know this:
No, wikiloops is not becomeing part of facebook. Not now, and not in the future. No, your userdata and music are not available to FB, the "app" will only post links to wikiloops, the content itself will stay yours.
People who have a facebook account will be able to sign in to wikiloops without registering, so they wont need to remember another username/PW combination by using the app, so my hopes are there will be more thumbs and feedback left for you guys.
I would appreciate it if many of you veteran users would sign up for the app and help me out with some feedback, like I said above, its all a little adventurous to see how this will work. Please dont be surprised by unexpected changes / happenings with the app at this stage, I will take care to improve the quality of notes posted to FB and I'm positive we will find a way to have it post just the right and shareworthy info (like when you just shared a remix, or someone posted a remix of one of your tracks).
So, to sum things up, people using the FB app will not have to visit their wikiloops wall, for most info shown there will turn up in their FB profile soon. Creating this automatisms was a lot of work ppl, I hope you will enjoy the benefits, and I do hope we all will benefit from the added publicity reached by theese extra links.
Last word to tame those wondering how a free project and a commercial thing like FB go together:
No, Facebook will not get to store your wikiloops password or other data. I did some really hard thinking to find a way that the app features (including automatic log in) will work without FB knowing any of your details (of course exept those wich you shared on FB itself).
I know many people are aware of the privacy issues that have been raised around FB, and I am myself one of the rather conservative FB users. Since we all are musicians, and I believe all of us like to have their music heard, I hope you will agree with me that attracting some more listeners from the huge facebook community is a goal we can agree on.
... I dont think many of you have a clue how many hours it took to get this workin ;)... If you'd like to become a FB-app pioneer, theres the log-in button to be found on the "sign in" page that you may visit after logging out of wikiloops (look for the link on the top-right corner).
Have fun jamming, and thx for all feedback!
