news from the coders desk:
- had quie some work submitting the facebook actions for approval by facebook, they have some special requirements a page needs to meet before they accept an app to go live. So I had to do some graphical changes before they agreed, one of the most funniest: they felt the green wikiloops thumb looked like the FB thumb too much, wouldn't accept that. So I had to design a second thumb button that only app users get to see. (since the visitors from FB were new users, I just left the optics as you know em for all "old" members ;)
End of story, the app is in full function, posting notices on downloads, likes (thumbs) and uploads, depending on you app settings.
The download has been changed slightly to enable theese postings and to finally count the downloads, wich will be a nice way to improve the ratings structure of wikiloops in the long run. Theres a reminder to give feedback or thumbs when a user downloads too many tracks without giving feedback now, a kind of "ghost-trap" I had been thinking about for some time. The message just shows the "like a jam, leave a thumb" banner and asks to leave a little feedback in a friendly way.
Third issue was a massive wave of spam-bot registrations in the last two weeks. Looked like someone had cracked the PHP-Fusion registration system wiki used to rely on, so I changed some relevant code "by hand" to confuse theese bots (theese users managed to register, edit their profile and leave a forum spam post in 37 seconds - this only works if you know a CMS like php-Fusion by heart). Actually, the fusion based parts of wikiloops are getting less and less, and since I developed it into my own direction a long time ago, I see no hope in relying on further updates by the fusion developers (wich seem to be stuck in a war against themselfes ever since the founder Nick Jones passed away). So I sent some days in a tense mood, feeling wikiloops was under attack... luckyly, the changes to the security fence I have made seem to have fixed the problem, no suspicious new members in the last 48hours :)
Took the time I have being on holidays rom my dayjob to look at some code with a more relaxed mind and found quite some things worth improving. Changed some indexing rules and meta descriptions again, added prev- and next- link referrals so google will understand the "pagination" of the loopsearch page. Hope this will help search results a little. Took quite some sites off the index (partner, credits, follow...) to make sure google understands "credits" is not a keyword for wikiloops, even tho the word appears in any page.
Visitor count nibbling on 300 theese days, 1979 members (bout 40-60 bots included, estimate) and 460X tracks online,
the spirit is great as in the best days, the tracks are cracking, this project is going places!
So whats on next? The mobile, .de and .fr domains need a thorough update. Going to have to lock myself in for three days to do that :)
I have some changes for the startpage in mind, one is titled "the heap", lol - you'll see it when its worth a look...
theres a bug about the flagged tracks still showing from rofile wallposts, I'll have to come up with something that will delete wallnotifications when a track is flagged (lord!). Best, the latest jams channel needs to be recreated then too, to kick the flagged track from that list as well. Looks like it wont get boin any time soon.

Wikiloops brings musicians from around the world to my home. How would we otherwise ever have the opportunity to play with all of these great musicians?
