Damn this guy is good! If I had known how easy it is to play the Hammond like a pro in such a short time, I would never have bothered with Guitar :o

Listen to the Hammond and Leslie on Janis Joplin's unforgettable Me and Bobby McGee. Bliss. Fantastic sound. You can hear that Leslie breaking up sweetly towards the end, running on 11 no doubt, with all the drawbars out on the Hammond if I'm not mistaken, just to keep up with the band's volume. Fantastic sound. The vid itself shows some Woodstock vibes.

If anyone remembers the group "Ten Years After", even though they had Alvin Lee on guitar, they were a very heavy Hammond band.

They still go on today under different members but even as recent as last year , still use real hammonds for recording.

If you love hammond , you may want to check their last album, Evolution.
They still record using mic placement on the leslie and everything and make every effort to keep the hammond shining in modern music.

This is one beautiful track and this entire album is on permanent rotation of must have albums.

As you can tell , I have a hammond fetish.
Back in 1989, I stood about 15 feet from Jon Lord at the World Music Theater in Illinois. I was doing security at the arena my summer before going into the Air Force and never felt the power of keyboards like that. His keyboard messed me up still to this day. Shook my whole world to hear that Leslie up close. He would get the leslie to break up like in the Me and Bobby Mcgee video above and I think I had out of body experiences.

Another hammond artist today is "Germany First Lady of Jazz" Barbara Dennerlein. Shes played with Dereck Trucks band and goes from Bach to Boogie. She could also kick you in the face 12 times before you even realized it, her feet are that fast.

Lachy Doley is touring Europe this summer, just caught him last week in Switzerland, great Hammond player. The video below shows him using his " Whammy Clav", a Hohner D6 Clavinet with a tremolo bar fitted.
