OK guys, here is my selection. I grew up on blues and rock, and so I would say my main influences are these (not in order just as they popped in my head):

Peter Green
Mike Bloomfield
Jimi Hendrix
Robin Trower
Duane Allmann + Dickey Betts
Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa

In a separate bracket are all the great blues guitarists that I had a guitar man crush on: Albert King, BB King, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Oris Rush, Robert Johnson.

Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa

My favorite right now is Big Daddy Cees friend Dan Anthony who is featured on Track #31148. The guy is awesome.

Although I'm not a guitarist, I cut a lot of my musical teeth on the rock and metal bands of the '90s - mostly because that's where one had to go in those days to find great bands - as well as a myriad of guitar solo albums because they always had great drummers on them such as Deen Castranovo and Atma Anur.

As a consequence, I've learned to appreciate great guitarists! And because of the above, always been a huge Jason Becker, Marty Friedman and Tony MacAlpine fan alongside the more established greats such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.

These days, my tastes have mellowed and I like different guitarists for the way or what they play. So my faves are:

- Dave Gilmour. He can put more meaning into one note than most can do in 100.
- Martin Taylor. Watched him live with Gordon Giltrap. Utterly, utterly amazing.
- Mark Knopfler. Think what you like of Dire Straits but what a soulful and distinctive player!
- John Petrucci. Listen to 'Bombay Vindaloo' live and tell me he doesn't combine some of the best chops on the planet with total musicianship.
- Steve Vai. Always preferred him to Satch. Sorry.
- Charlie Burchill (Simple Minds). Adore his total minimalism.
- Jason Becker. Because Perpetual Burn is probably my favourite guitar solo album of all time and it just takes me back.

And my all-time favourite is Eddie Van Halen. The second-most influential drummer on my playing when I was learning was Alex Van Halen and I learned most of my early rock skills from this band. But I'm no fan of Eddie's hammer-ons, etc.. It's his riffs that are killer, not his solos, for me. Listen to ‘Mean Streets' from 'Fair Warning'. Or anything else from their first 5 albums. 'Nuff said.
