Can you read bass clef?

It might be unrelated to the thread title, but if I'd have the time and the money I'd love to take lessons on double bass. It's a bit too far from my place, but here's one I'd like to have as a teacher - she makes even the German bow look elegant, and her German is about as perfect as it can possibly get:

ich verstehe deine Lust auf dieses Instrument, mir ging es ähnlich und vor zehn Jahren bin ich mehr und mehr vom E-Bass auf dieses hölzerne Tiefton-Möbel umgestiegen. Allerdings bin ich über Pizzicato-Spiel nie hinaus gekommen und ohne visuelle Kontrolle (Markierungen an der Seite des Halses) wäre auch das nicht zu bewerkstelligen gewesen. An bewegtes Arco-Spiel war gar nicht zu denken! Getragene Grundtöne ausgenommen
Ich will dich nicht ggf. entmutigen, aber wer so ein Instrument nicht schon als Kind oder Jugendlicher erlernt, hat ziemlich schlechte Karten. Oder gnadenlos üben bis zur Vergasung, denn die Griffpositionen muss der Körper lernen, nicht der Kopf! Und je älter man ist, desto unmöglicher wird das.

Ja, ich weiß Heinz - das ist einer der Gründe weshalb ich noch keinen Kontrabass gekauft hab. Ein anderer ist daß wir Fußbodenheizung haben, was für richtig gute Instrumente natürlich die Hölle wär. Und klar, der Platz ist auch nicht wirklich da, bin ja nicht allein in unserer Wohnung.

Aber manchmal, wenn ich so manches Stück hier hör, dann denk ich echt drüber nach... :)

Dann würde für dich vielleicht (als Kompromiss) ein vollelektrischer Kontrabass infrage kommen. Der beste ist vermutlich immer noch der von Yamaha, aber der ist sehr teuer. Ich habe unter anderem einen "Palatino VE 500" von 2005, sieht cool aus, spielt sich super und klingt ziemlich authentisch. Hat damals 600.-€ gekostet, aber du brauchst natürlich einen Bassverstärker dazu, das Teil hat keinen Klangkörper. :)

Reading bass clef is easy and similar to reading music written in concert pitch and transposing to my Bb tuned instruments. It becomes much more difficult if transposing from concert pitch to my Eb instruments. I still have to write it all out...a real drag.
