The leaves fall
Like broken butterflies,
The shimmer of brown shells
Clamors to the ground
To make a bed for winter.

As the days grow dark,
The floor deepens
With those brown wings
There to catch the mourn.

I remember spring
When the color of your eyes
Danced,
A brilliant shade of blue
Like the skies above,
Full of promise
And hope for a bright tomorrow,

But now I find you gone
Too early has this winter hit,
The dew on my cheeks
Flows freely
Doing little to wet the ground.

The hope of new life is still
Within this hard and dark soil,
Perhaps spring will bring
New promise, but for now,
I must endure the rain.
