My hometown pub was a beacon of light
It could warm your soul on a bitter cold night
Black smoke rose from the tall smoke stacks
While the punter's feet left their nightly tracks
In a carpet of crisp uneven snow
That paved their way fifty feet below

The sign outside hung invitingly calm
From a strong white mast like a welcoming arm
"Come on in" was the Beacon's cry
There's a mug of ale for you to buy
Those hard earned coins jingling in your coat
Will soon help sooth your raspy throat

The hometown pub was a palace of song
It made green frogs sing and tall tales long
