A solo is needed. I thought, maybe I might be capable of creating one. I was playing about trying various things, trying to get the notes right, when this less musical idea occurred - thunder. It seemed to me to fit thematically with what the song was about. And dynamically it made the section loud which would contrast well with that final softer section.
