Fishinmissio Im finding smaller tip openings and stronger reeds seem to beneficial..but then this is a '64 Mark VI...so there's that too. Got a 3.5 Fake reed comin to see how that works.:| Currently using a 5 mouthpiece and 4.5 reed on the tenors. Although I have a Martin 4 mouthpiece that plays surprisingly easy with a 4.5 This is a Soloist C** Thanks for listening Dan! +0

Itocpogo I found with a lot of experimenting that the type horn has nothing to do with your sound. The MAJOR impact is your lip positioning on the mouthpiece, your tongue placement on the reed and how much you practice. But the type mpc and reed adds that extra improvement and does make a different and it's personal. What works for you definitely will not work for me. For decades I used so many mouthpieces and reeds and you have to search and search. I now use a 7 Jody Jazz tenor metal mpc and 2.75 Studio Legere plastic reed. When I retired I did not want to keep spending so much money on cane reeds because in a box of 10, lucky to find 5 good ones and synthetic reeds usually always good and lasts much longer. I tried over 10 synthetic reed brands until I was happy with this. Your mpc/reed set up on this track in my opinion is Fantastic. You have a very warm fat cool clear tone. I also hear your Wonderful phrasing on this track that says you are practicing and that is the MAIN ingredient thta also improves your intonation and tone. +1

Fishinmissio Isn't there always a disclaimer on sax tips .. "Don't mean it'll work for you.." haha Yeah..alto is a 2.5 real reed.Pleased with the fake ones on the tenors, never tried one on the alto..we shall soon see :) +0
