The drone of the city
Is absent.
No longer the hiss of the freeway
To lull me to sleep at night,

I now hear
The quiet clamor of the clouds,
The shrill cry of a lost bird
Trying to survive one more day.

The lagoon is alive
With all of its empty space.
There is no ding of the elevator
To wake me up,

Only the 
Wink of morning sunlight,
Peeking through the eaves,
The breath of the breeze
Exhaling through the trees…

The heartbeat of nature
Doing its job every day,
Pacing each moment
One second at a time.
