ulfberth Thanks for playing. In my mix I used a minimal Bass. Quite busy anyway - starting with the drums - but the drums contain the inspiration.

Great mix, to avoid covering the solos I held back on the keyboard volume. You should just put the original bass sound, as friend Kai points out. To help you out, I've included the single piano track starting at 1:24 in your remix and at 1:22 from the first drum beat. ;) +1

ulfberth How many voices can be heard together ? My trumpet sound may be too much. But I was motivated to play. I used my more minimal Bass in the mix. Keys helps harmony.
If I was the producer I would ask everybody to play less.
Modern recording techniques and here at WikiLoops we do serial overdubs. Early contributors cannot hear later additions. Still It’s become the standard.
I feel there are several versions here that are very good ! Perfection is elusive and often becomes rigid and stale.

ulfberth I have gotten paid for mixing and for producing music for films and recordings, but do it by ear. Bass I often cut all frequencies below 40-50hz and boost til about 240hz, where I notch down several DB to about 280hz. This lessens noise. higher frequencies 1k and up I also lessen, unless it's a bass solo or slap / percussive work. Many pro mixers use ducking or side chaining to enhance percussive parts including Bass drums. Very appropriate for pop or dance music.
I avoid the grid, instead prefer bass ahead /pushing or behind/laid back.
It may not be approved methods, but works for me.
Tiny computer and phone speakers make Bass mixes difficult. I just go for sounding good in headphones.

frankiejazz Excellent methodology, a little technical for me! I once had my friend Mario who had worked as a professional for some Italian artists. Unfortunately today he is no longer among us. Using Reaper I have equalizers but the frequency talk is difficult for me. Anyway thanks for the advice 👍 +1

Basically I boost the low end but cut off the noise part very low with a high pass setting and for a smooth bass lower the high end; the "sizzle".
