Funky smelly fishy balls

Green chilli, green chilli, garlic and ginger
I’m making a paste, with flavours that linger
Fennel seed, lemon peel, coriander, mint
Onion and cumin with a fenugreek tint

I’m steaming white fish in a stock that I make
From leeks and some carrots and the head of a hake
With coriander root and the seeds, and some bay
I think I’ll add mustard seeds and celery today

Now look at the sauce and the onions I’ve cooked
45 minutes was all that it took
For the hue to turn golden and the flavour’s so rich
That it’s filling its pockets ‘til they’re bursting a stitch

I’ve toasted and ground all the spices I use
You only live once, you got nothing to lose
I’ll add garlic and ginger and chilli if needed
And summer’s tomatoes are skinned and de-seeded

I’m boiling potatoes, simple and gentle
As the love in my heart is pure and parental
I’ll mash ‘em until they’re fluffy and light
They bring things together, they’re keeping it tight

Bring it all together
Put it in a bowl
The paste and fish and mashed potatoes
Use your funky fingers

I thought I’d better tell you all
They’re not too big and not too small
Lovely curry sauce and all
The ladies love my fishy balls
