I used to use Cubase. Also tried Sonar, that was cool, just kind of migrated away from it for some reason. I also tried reaper, but that just didn't click for mr. Tried Audacity and that was pretty simple to use, but just didn't have what I wanted in it. Abelton, was just a nightmare for me, so confusing, I don't even get how its a daw. I just like simple, easy to use interface, but with the things I want in it. I can write about this subject forever, but what I am using now is actually Mixcraft 6. I sometimes lean back in my chair and think, wow, I can't believe I'm using mixcraft, lol But, it works for me and I am pretty good at it and I think that matters when it comes to your comfort level and confidence, as well as quality of what your outcome is. None of the others felt comfortable for me, so Once I dove into mixcraft, I knew immediately, that I would use this software. We'll see what the future holds, but for now, that's my choice. Real easy to use and the final outcome for what I need to do is great. Hope this helps :)

On a side note...I heard the Studio one is really great, so I might look into that next.

I've used GB since 2008 and I love it.. it comes with many features and it's free.... however... I can't get the "native instruments" to work anymore in them.. that is a bit of a shame.. but other than that I swear by Garageband It does all I need...

It also now has a great drum section (I rely on vst, drums and loops since I don't play instruments.. (besides a little bit of keyboard))

Then again I use it only to record my vocals and not live instruments. But none the less does it have many features.. but they are not always easy to find.

Studio One by Presonus has a nice combination of ease of use, features, and options. I started with the free version and was so pleased eventually upgraded to the professional version. It's loaded with usable VSTs that have great presets that are tweakable. I'm still finding more features I can use as I develop my understanding of the software. It really makes recording/mixing/producing a creative process!

Hello!
I use the Roland V-Studio 20. It includes the Cakewalk Guitar-Tracks-4 Software. No Latence and works with older PCs and Notebooks. 32 Tracks and simply to use. For me Less is more.

Best wishes, Andy.

In the section of "recording device" (Showcase) specific the evolution that I have had recording by different methods since I am in this web, it starts using Cubase but consumes a lot of resources in my laptop, in the end I get almost the same with Audacity a magnificent program freeware
In each track that upload lately I specify the technical aspect of the recording for interested loopers

Sonar (Previous Cakewalk) <3 - Fairly easy to start using, has all the advanced functionality that can be used later on after mastering the basics. I use it together with a Steinberg UR22, works like a charm :)

Started with Deck II & Sound Edit 16(1998), then GarageBand, then Logic and Adobe Soundbooth(I use to do things to individual tracks(effects/noise removal/volume adjustments) and to also apply effects on a rendered mix to re-import into Logic(blend it with my tracks that created it) or as the finishing touch on my mixed file from Logic.
Can generally have 12 different projects in one file with maybe up two 12 tracks with plug-ins and Logic hardly ever dogs down. Super Easy --especially if you take time to watch some video by people online
then go practice--I probably don't fully use this program to what it is designed to do, but I've found there are many ways to crack a coconut.

I am a fan of Reaper. What I really need to work with a DAW is "less information". I can't stand colored screens. I learned to use Reaper with my needs, programmed my templates and screens.
To give you an example: In RECORD running I can see no wave shapes on the screen. Seeing "waves" means for me, I am in Playback-mode.

In general, DAWs steel my concentration. But it's worth to learn every day something new. Took me weeks to synchronize my old 8tracker with Reaper. Knowing the solution it's pretty simple.

Couldn't work with audacity because I found no way/no tools for real time EQueing; this is most important.

Hi y'all!

right now i am still using Cubase 5 on my Pc with Windows 7. But the windows starts to argue with me ,that i have to change to Windows 10, cause it can't do no updates anymore for all kinds of programs and windows itself.
My question is ,if i turn to Windows 10 , what version of Cubase you will recommend for me to use. As I said I use Cubase 5 now and it's great. Should it be Cubase 9 pro or will elements also do it? I'm using it to record guitarwork, synthesizer , dance music, and with a yamaha mixing studio device...

It may not come as a surprise that I'm a fan of Reaper ;)

It's lightweight (the installed 64bit version is under 70mb) and gets updated constantly. One thing some people may not be aware of is the ability to apply custom themes to Reaper. It can change the look and workflow dramatically. Here's a link to the themes stash - https://stash.reaper.fm/tag/Themes - I use one called WT_Brawn_bespoke.

Logic Pro x for me....really logical how most of it works and the automation is nothing short of amazing. I use templates a lot , and I guess most other DAWs can do this, but the way logic handle it is soooo elegant!.
can't really compare it to any other software other than garage band or audacity, both of which i found a bit limiting.
all my experience before owning logic was hardware based.
16 track fostex and 24 track tascam machines... with big analogue desks to run them.
so I guess thats why I like logic, it allows a similar workflow.

Since I'm on Linux since years, for me it's Ardour. That exists for all systems, but Linux is its natural habitat as they say...

Harrison is based on it, but the free parent is all I need.
