Hi there,
i think in the last times there are more and more tracks postet without the appropriate scale or chords. I think it would be easyer for other musicians (especially for me ;) ) when everybody has to post the scales or chords.

hey basster,
I'm affraid people will write "hrmpfgzgzgz" into the Chord / Scale box if I make riffs mandatory (mandatory=you have to write something to continue) and they dont know what to write. Lets hope people understand they'll get more remixes if the give riff info, I'm affraid theres not much else I can do.
They layout of riff-entering is a bit messed up tho, maybe that could be improved...
have a nice sunday!

yess, yess!
Basster, try asking for the chord info, to remind people. Also others could give a hint then. Not everybody knows what they are playing theoretically...

... maybe we should have a filter to find only tracks with riff info?
whatcha say? that would motivate some a little more...

I think "ask for the tabs or scales" is a good way. May be, someone have hear the chords and can write it down.

I think very often even a simple info like
"C minor scale" will help people to improvise over a track !!

... to be honest Lutz, I couldnt do that... I can tell you what notes I played, you'll have to understand the scale yourself... +1 for giving as much info as you have...

It doesn`t take much time to write "scale d minor" ;)

Hey dudes. It wouldnt be a bad idea to include what tuning the instrument is in also. I know what davebee means by chords etc not being correct because its happened to me and I have also done it. I have found that sometimes the chords are not incorrect but the tuning was different. ;)

As a guitarist I have no option to give simple riff info as before. I am forced to enter tabs. Which is much more difficult and complex. That might be the reason why many do not enter anything simple like "G minor throughout".
I personally don't like the tab thing, because we guitarists play very rarely these basic chords. Much better and easier to say Dm G7 C or something.
And I think the riff/scale info is essential for a backing track/exercise and practise site.

It really helps if people put something in the riffs section although having to work out the chords yourself could be considered a useful exercise too ;)

I think it is a kind of respect to other musicians to give them the info they need to play.
Hi Lutz - i have asked many times for chords but mosttimes there was no answer or i was told, that the guitar was tuned in "Standard-E"
But not everey song that is played on a "standard-E-guitar" is played in E.
Hi Dick!
I don`t know if an other filter will work. I often don`t use filters. I am listening to the new songs and maybe i`ll find one i like. But sometimes it is not possible for me to play on that song when there is now kind of information.

guys, Ive been following this discussion, and I believe we all agree on some points, such as:
- having some riff, scale or chord info is very nice and helpfull, so we all will take the minute to give a little info on what we played.
- the idea to have "must"-tabbing for guitarrist seems to turn some off, I do understand its easyier to just type some info than to select the chords from the chord picker. I will change this again, so you can choose wich route to take... I know the chord picker is a bit beta, theres many chords missing, and to some chords there should be diffrent tabs available ... didnt want to make it too complicated, but as we see now, the simplified version aint really good either. Coding the tab-thing was an immense effort, but one of the first features I'd take down, for it just dont work too good it seems.
- some users just dont have the knowledge to give riff info, we will have to live with that I am affraid, no reason to collect wrong info that wont help at all.
I'd like to add one more aspect:
I think we have users with all kind of playing skills using wikiloops, from the beginner glad to have tabs, to the medium player fond of some chord info from wich to start looking by oneself, to the pro who'll enjoy the challenge of jumping into a jam without any prior info...
I do believe it will do all learners good to try to figure out whats happening by ear some times, but for some (and with some rather complicated tracks with many changes), that might be asked too muc from a beginner.
Wikiloops is about ear-training quite a lot, so theres one of the reasons the riffs where never intended to be visible at first listen.
I had a filter in the loopsearch where you could choose from the available riff info, thinking to enable searching for "blues" in "A" or something, but since there is no standard way to note down chords in the free-text entry field, the search engine gets lost when trying to analize data like "A m", "Am" "Aminor" "1st turnaround in A" and such, all saying "hey, this is in A minor", but expressed so diffrently, the search engine wont understand...
the rather standardized result of the tab-picker would be much easier to analyze and use for search optimizing, but that thas other flaws as said above.
So what do we learn?
proper declarations, tagging, titling and giving chord info adds a whole lot of value to a jam by raising its usability and its chance to get found either by wikiloops on site search or by google or others search engines.
Please take the time to enter as much valuable info to your tracks, and choose good titles instead of "remix to 1234", that will really add value to your tracks.
Please stay friendly if users dont feel like following this suggestion, keep asking for chords, but start training your ears before you get frustrated about lack of info - they dont tell you chords on the radio or wherever else you get your music either...
sorry if this conclusion is not satisfying for some, I'll do my best to make entering info more inviting, the rest is up to every single user.

Is there any way of flagging jams without riffs declared so maybe some talented, knowledgeable, helpful members with some spare time could update the missing riffs info?
;)

What if there was a way of showing or editing the riff in real guitar tab. Like this ....
Pentatonic E scale ... then E chord. All we need are a bunch of 6 lines we can add numbers over top.
E____3__0___________________________________0______
B_________3__0______________________________0______
G______________2__0_________________________1_____
D___________________2__0____________________2_____
A_________________________2__0______________2_____
E_______________________________3__0________0_____

wow :)
hey slim, this is the moment I have to abandon this discussion for lack of guitar knowledge :) Looks like way too much work to enter a whole tracks chords this way, but I have no practise in reading or writing tab -
guitarists, please let me know once you have made up your mind :)
@ slim - one problem I see is the size of the displayed tab, where should it be displayed? If I would put it where the pic-based tabs are shown now, you'd need to scroll every two tabs... that wont be user friendly.
Another Solution to the tab thing:
people could attach a word or notepad document containingt the tab to a jam, than this could be downloaded and viewed seperately, and I wont have to bother much..
but lets be honest, who will really take the time to tab things up and upload a second file after the music upload procedure?
