I was getting flooded with track upload notifications on my profile .
So I unchecked the notification box but it didn't work .
The only way to stop them was to unfollow people .
I don't know maybe I did something wrong but it didn't seem to work just unchecking notifications box

The notification settings are about notifications by email, not about newsfeed notifications, so I'm not surprised that didn't do the trick.
I will however take your feedback serious and add a more convenient option to configure who will appear in your newfeed right on the newsfeed. That will take a little time, but will show up eventually.
