I Dream of an Island

The cold of the night flowing through tired feet,
Where the city shoes and the sidewalk meet,
It won't matter much what's buttoned up tight,
There's an East wind chilling those bones tonight.

Snow falling down on the city,
Rain falling heavy on the snow,
The sliding cars collide all night,
Hurry-scurrying to and fro.

But I know how to dream,
So I dream of an island,
Close my eyes and feel the sun on my back,
I hear the songbirds,
With their colours flying,
To chase away these shades of grey and black.

So many people push past me,
Heading to wherever they go,
Faces passing by like phantoms,
Then at last there's one that I know.

She shakes off the snow and says she's missed me,
I can't begin to say how good that felt,
Like the perfect day when she first kissed me,
A frozen heart begins to thaw and melt.

And we know how to dream,
So we dream of an island,
Two figures walk together on the sand,
As the night draws in,
We reach for each other,
And go into the sunset hand-in-hand.

The weather's just fine the city,
When it's summer on a winter's day,
And two new sets of footprints lead away.
