When the hour reaches midnight,
And the dogs begin to bark,
You can hear them in the hedgerows,
As they scamper in the dark,
Seeking, probing,
For a way into your home,
And I'll be there in their number,
I am Dimitri Provolone.

I'm Dimitri pleased to meet me,
Yes you are, I bet you are,
And you'll always recognise me,
From this twisted facial scar,
Don't you try it,
Don't you ever shake my hand,
Just one touch will bring you nightmares,
You may never understand.

1-2-3-4,
1-2-3-4,
Feel the ice form on your bones,
Take it down in to E-minor,
And then bring it all back home.

I'm Dimitri, Prince of shadows,
Lord protector of the rats,
Known for skinning my detractors,
Famed for wearing them as hats,
You will fear me,
You will know my name is pain,
And when people flee this city,
Then the rats will rule again.

1-2-3-4,
1-2-3-4,
As you sit there all alone,
While my children pick your scent up,
I am Dimitri Provolone.

[notes]

There are a lot of rats where I live right now. A LOT.

There is quite a bit of reconstruction work going on around
the East Brighton sea-front so the working assumption round
here is that many have been displaced from the waste ground there.

They are also getting pretty bold - I should imagine because
food is scarce. I've seen a wee girl drop a cookie at a bus
shelter and seconds later a couple of rats jumping out in
broad daylight to chow down on it. The bushes outside McDonalds
in the Marina could easily be called "world of rats".

News has reached my ears of track-suited youths chasing them around
the beach area with baseball bats... I can neither confirm nor
deny this from first-hand experience. I don't approve either way.

So yes, this is formed of my paranoia listening to the scrit-a-scratch
as I work into the night on my laptop. My cat is a big old boy (>6kgs)
but I worry about the bugger when he goes out and have caught myself
Googling "Flick knives for cats".

Dimitri Provolone is just a name I made up for a demonic kind of
"rat master" figure. I am well aware that "Provolone" is actually
and Italian cheese thank you. I just liked the way it sounded.
- f*ck knows how my stupid mind works.

Enjoyed this one. Bit scary though. We have got some massive buggers here in Kuala Lumpur. Saw one one time around the street food stalls, swear it must have been at least 18 inches body. Maybe he moved to East Brighton? :D:o. I can see a Cats like musical around this one - call it RATS :W:D

Thanks! - Or maybe "Seaside Story" where the girl in the cats gang falls for a rat from the wrong side of the tracks...
