Key search function

The Key search functionality has been eroded over last couple of years and now might as well be removed as it serves no function. When I first joined one was able to search by key either by major or minor. This disappeared a few versions ago. There was a work around you could search by the letter of the key and in the results it would tell you whether it was for example E minor or Major not perfect but workable. In the later versions it just produces the Key letter without indicating whether major or minor. It was still possible , although very time consuming, to search through every search result with the hope that whoever had uploaded the track had completed the Key input box. I would say less than 1/3 of members put this information in however. Now the latest version does not even display the key of the track even if it has been input by the member! It is therefore virtually impossible on new tracks to search for a major or minor key and a laborious process on older tracks.

why does it matter you may ask? Well it does matter if you are looking to practice in a specific key, your voice or instrument is best suited to certain keys or if you play a single key instrument like many flutes and whistles, certain harmonicas or Harp for example. My use of Wikiloops has been severely restricted as a result. Is there a possibility of restoring the Major and Minor key search?

Solidarity even if I'm not really affected. I remember the ‘battles’ with my saxophonist friend who used to tempest with our choice of keys (the guitarists). The key of F that he liked was horrible for me. So I understand this request.
Best regards

Yes, I just put in the information about Key, etc and it no longer is shown on #306318 ??? It was very important when adding. I often can't hear a half-tone difference when playing to a piece by ear so notes can easily slide up or down out of key C to B or E to F especially. The DAW allows ways to check if this has happened but only if you know the key before. I hope this can be restored to below the waveform.
Best, Paul

Hey :)
Thanks for your feedback, I just re-instated the chord display below the player and on the search result listings (you have to filter by some chord to see it on the search results).

As I was looking into the matter, I noticed that quite a lot of tracks which actually do have chord information set are not recognized by the search filter right now, this is a second issue that seems to have been bugged ever since the 2022 search engine update.

New tracks should be indexed with their keys right away, I still need to fix the mapping on the tracks between IDs 270k and 306k, but that is not too hard to do.

It's always good to get your feedback and to get to know some feature is of value to some.
I really was never too sure about the major / minor distinction, and yes, it does take an extra click when uploading to specify that correctly...
what might be worth re-thinking is the "if you specify a chord but don't specify major/minor, system assumes its major" fallback.
One might as well have a choice of "unkown", "major" and "minor" to get away from that, or possibly more variants should be added... if then you guys will really make use of that :)

Thankyou for your response I am encouraged by your openness to change. Personally just to be able to search 250000 tracks by major or minor key signature would be a tremendous advantage. I accept not every member would include this information so you can not make it a compulsory field on the Upload. Again personally, I usually search tracks for a specific key for practice/improvisation , for my diatonic instruments and my limited vocal abilities! It is impossible to listen to every new track and the other new search options are much appreciated.:)
