Sunday morning, pancakes on the griddle,
Smell of coffee hanging in the air,
Looking at the flatware on the table,
Empty spaces left now you're not there.
Laughter is a stranger in the hall way,
Fleeting shadows flicker on the wall,
Nights I reach across the sheets to find you,
Holding on to nothing much at all.
Sure, I like Sunday mornings,
But I loved Friday nights,
Dancing close beneath those harbor lights,
You lived for Summer sunshine,
But didn't fear the rain,
And I can't bear to watch you die again.
Driving past those places I remember,
Windows down and music cranked up loud,
Some songs cut me open like a razor,
Bleeding out, a ghost within the crowd.
Scrolling down another bad decision,
I hear your last words playing on repeat,
Though I know it doesn't help to listen,
I can't bring myself to press 'delete'.
Sure, I like Sunday mornings,
But I loved Friday nights,
Dancing close beneath those harbor lights,
You lived for Summer sunshine,
But didn't fear the rain,
And I can't bear to watch you die again.
