I use EZ Drummer too , Tof. Either pick and choose the pattern or else use the electronic Yamaha kit to use the sounds. You can also get into finger drumming which works well.Nothing beats really pounding drums though. The best kit I feel is the standard one that comes free with the basic EZ Drummer. I also like the Latin Percussion for things like cowbells, shakers, etc.
This is using an Akai mpd218. Once you lay out what drums for which buttons, its really easy.
