This was so inviting I just fell headlong into it. I love the subtle changes along the way and change from Cmin at the beginning to Emaj at 2:34. I used and EWI Oboe at the beginning, a EWI Clarinet in the middle and Chinese Dizi flute at the end. All horns sections overlap. Thanks Mario! ❤️

PaulM44 Thanks Michel, this seems like one of Mario's overlooked gems. Then again, he does so many .... :Y +1

You've got a very good feel for the changes and what melodic lines and harmonies fit. A crisper sound that works with this crisp rhythm might work better? +1

PaulM44 Thanks, I have been in love with Bossa since I first heard it at 18.
Not sure what you have in mind for "crisper", but am always trying to enlarge my sound library which is somewhat limited so far. At 3:19 it has two instruments playing the same notes to get that sound which at 4:10 is a single instrument to the end. So I'm trying to extend the soundscape but crisper is not yet part of that vocabulary .....

Wade I was thinking about the "attack". Most electronic sounds have parameters for attack, decay, sustain, and release. The EWI can modify these according to how you use your air-stream. So it's a combination of the sound you're using and how you hit those notes. You can still play smoothly but have attacks that work with the rhythm. Listen again to those Bossa tracks and you'll hear that they work strongly with the rhythm (no vague or mushy attacks) but have a smooth flow.

It's that contrast of playing rhythmically AND smoothly that gives it such a distinctive character. By contrast "smooth jazz" is all mush with little/no appeal.

PaulM44 Thanks! Yes, I am gliding over the background with no real attack, just trying to start with the beat as all that's needed. Never thought about it this way, Cool, I learned something, which is my main quest here! +1

Wade Really glad if it's a help. We all learn from each other. Having open ears and minds lets us jump forward. +1

PaulM44 I quickly read about Legato and Portamento and realized both were on max throughout. I have just posted a second version with this correction, thanks to you I believe it is something I now understand better and control. Let me know if #2 is crispy. +0

PaulM44 You're the best. I really deserved a good add and I think it was one of my better ones.
I blow the piece with EWI AKAI and hope to get it about 70 to 80% right then spend hours editing it via MIDI anyway. B)
