The Amateur

I listen to the music shows
The ones where everybody goes
I'm quite impressed but Heaven knows
I can't compete with all those pros
I make a song up in my head
And play the keyboard by my bed
Or try to strum guitar instead
But I am such a dunderhead
It's not enough to write a tune and sing it from my heart
I finish in the afternoon not long after I start
I know the song will never sound like anything I've heard around
And everyone will know for sure that I am just an amateur

While other bands produce a sound that gets my juices flowing
Whenever I'm playing around my audience gets going
Base, drum, lead and keys
A vocal that will always please
A melody that lingers on forever after I have gone
How can I compete with bands that knock us off our feet
Don't have a label or a Manager, I guess I'm just an amateur
