Step over the low wall
That divides the road and concrete
Walk above the shore
Where memories of long before
Flit between the ebb tides
Look down upon the seaside
A life in miniature resides

Crowds gather gaily
Under the low horizon
Steep beach
Blue water
Towels
Red bathing caps
The small hushed waves
Repeat each fresh collapse
Upon the warm yellow sand

Step over the low wall
Where time becomes a portal
Bathers swim in footsteps
That long before were washed away
The turning of the tides
Like seasons of the moon
Repeat their cycle
From one generation to the next
