Dropped off a guitar to have modified today.
Im having all the wiring gutted and changed to 1950's style with 1950 Russian Paper In Oil capacitors. Also the bridge is being torn out and replaced with a more precision machined piece with brass saddle inserts. Most guitars today are played with the tone knobs fully on otherwise it just sounds like mud. This mod gets me clean and crisp tone control even if I turn the knob down. It greatly expands the guitars dynamic range and sound possibilities. The brass saddle greatly adds warmth to a guitar.

Ended up getting a three hour lesson on guitar setup and cutting nuts and saddles....

I was given a small tour as well...

The luthier of my bass lives way up north, a little over 2 hours by car. But I always enjoyed my few visits with similar experience there. Them luthiers and their knowledge of how wood and construction is affecting the tone is close to magic. Amazing craftsmanship. I've found a youtube (with optional English subs) with Jacco talking about their guitars. And how it starts with coffee...

Everything starts with coffee! Great video! I like the guitar he holds up at the end.

The coolest thing is that he agreed to coat my fretless Jazz bass neck in epoxy. We are working a quote. Nobody will do that anymore because its a pain. While its a beautiful bass , I never liked it because it doesnt sound like a fretless. Im looking forward to that project.

There is only one guy who epoxies bass necks online and that is HG Thor. He told me he has a three year waiting list.

Nice video, looks like a good guitar. One thing though, he should invest in some good quality lamps, how can he work when it's so dark in there?? :D :D :D
