Setting up my new studio room. Ive added some sound absorption tiles to cut the echo but how do you really know where and how many do you need?

Well they have a solution...

REW Room analyzer software.

Its free but you need a Omnidirectional microphone. Omnidirectionals pick up sound from all angles :

You set up a Omni directional mike in center of room. Point to your speaker source out to the room and run the software.

Theres many tutorials and Omnis can be bought cheaply online.Or you can invest in dedicated calibrated ones like a UMIK.

the software tells you where your problem reflection areas are by the test results...

To treat your room and calculate what kind of absorbers etc you need, you might check https://www.ibp.fraunhofer.de/en/expertise/acoustics/digital-and-sustainable-acoustics/software-tools.html#reverberate

If you need help and advice with understanding REW results, there are some amazingly helpful knowledgeable people on Gearspace on the studio building forum. They won't sniff because it's your bedroom or garage.
If you want to tame low frequencies be ready for 18" thick absorbers covering every surface... or use your headphones for that...
