....but never when the lakes empty or the lawn's turned brown :)

My not so mini moan is... why is it that somebody was smart enough to put a man on the moon all those years ago but no one's ever figured out a way to keep the lights on in our homes. Four power outages in as many weeks when the weather's above 100 degs! We are so lucky to live in this age of modern technology. :)

I've found the secret of success on YouTube - just make your title suggestive and they'll all come running to check you out :) I only put videos up to store them mainly, rarely get views or subscribers. But one, to my ultimate amazement, has resulted in 32 new subscribers and 13,500 views. The title "Bend over boy" How disappointed they must be when they realize it's just a funny, innocent story about a strict teacher.

I've put this in my "Moan" thread because I don't think this was how I intended or wanted to be recognised :(

I'm dragging this thread back up because I'm so frustrated that whenever I try to record a vocal someone or something decides to make noise. I hang a sign on my door that says "Recording in progress" but noise still comes through. The fridge, the washing machine, the doorbell, the refuge collectors, kids screaming, DIYers drilling, lawn mowers, the toilet flushing and who can forget the 'thing' in the attic:o ..... and now, today a new one is a swarm of WASPS buzzing really loud somewhere in the chimney.

Pro Tip:
Get yourself one of these and shove the microphone into the breathing tube hole.

Problem solved.

Just a tiny moan about the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Of course it was spectacular and clever and original but I watched for 4 hours and it was hard to get the full impact of the procession. Stuff was happening in different places at the same time, interrupted by pre-recorded footage. Well done France but maybe you tried too hard :(

The rain was a shame but they got through all that. By the end however I felt it was one long arty-farty arm waving dance after another and the freakiest people and costumes ever. The music was so dramatic and overpowering that I couldn't hear the commentary. The worst thing was Lady Gaga, a terrible, repetitive song, cliched cabaret with a tattooed lady running up and down steps with feathers. But maybe I'm too judgmental !

I'm going to ‘tease’ you 😜 again...You seemed very impatient in the chat, but I didn't dare do it at the time. First of all, I want you to know that I have the greatest respect for you as a person and for all your musical contributions. I'm even really looking forward to the moment when I can contribute to one of your songs.
Coming back to the Olympic ceremony, I skimmed over the whole thing because in the ‘land of enlightenment’, they couldn't do any better than this avalanche of mediocrity. Our good president is at the bottom of it all, so what do presidents do? They erect monuments or perform circus games to make history, to put their name in the annals of history. Unable to lead a country, they entertain it. The French are poorer and poorer and the leaders continue to spend indiscriminately. All this is pure indecency. I won't bore you with everything that's wrong, because I'm not talking about politics, just humanism.
Best regards
Francis

Thank you Francis. I think "avalanche of mediocrity" is the description I was searching for. I had to give credit for the work involved but constantly thought how expensive and extravagant it must have been.
I love the Olympic games but introducing wholesome sporting events with a huge promotional extravaganza went against the original ethos of the event. It seems each hosting Country now has to outdo the one before, where will it end? :(

I can understand that the more prudish among us might have been shocked by some of the decadent scenes presented during this ceremony. If someone asks me the question, I would answer that I appreciated this big fiesta as a whole and this marvelous country will constantly shine in my heart. It seems that it can't never be able to be completely negative, even in the event of a political crisis.
It leads to debate and , maybe to solutions.
Long live France damn it!

That opening "entertainment" at the Olympic games didn't impress me. A tranny type running around with their scrotum hanging out with children present, making fun of the last supper with a bunch of weirdos and other sick imagery strikes me as Satanic and a bit pedophilic too at times .. Who likes this kind of thing??? Mini Moan complete :D

Of course, and I also understand the enthusiasm generated by this event, which deserves to be fully highlighted. I didn't dare make the connection with the decline of the Roman Empire, but that would have been so easy... via ‘the circus games’. You could make it just as beautiful by being a little more sober. I imagine that you could only see the whole thing by holding your mobile phone up to your nose. This is not unique to France, which remains a marvellous country, but it has become an international one-upmanship where nothing can be done without the apology of the grandiose, obviously with the secret desire to be better than the other countries. So we keep the ceremonies for certain countries that can guarantee it, while allowing ‘smaller countries’ to compete and, above all, profiting from their supporters' royalties. But universality remains intact when one of their athletes wins a medal, and that's the only positive thing I can think of, because it's then that the Olympic spirit reigns supreme. Long live everyone, including France!
And why not a universal organisation?

I think we all agree there were some very weird aspects to the ceremony, it was hard to distinguish male from female. Through the media we are seeing a new gender neutral society as the norm and this seems like a gross exaggeration of reality. There's an idea spreading that you have to shock the public to get noticed... and the watchers now expect more and more outrageous looks or behaviour to fuel their cravings for shock. I think there may be a backlash to certain fashions like tattoos covering vast areas of skin. I noticed the 'body art' in the Olympic competitors yesterday. People without tattoos are probably noticed more, certainly by myself. So maybe purity and innocence will be the next movement :)

Mobile phones were mentioned above so I want a mini moan about people who watch the World through their little screens at sporting events in particular. Why sacrifice a true visual experience in order to film what you didn't actually witness directly with your own eyes :( More generally, it seems more important to film accidents and incidents than to help or assist in a rescue. Voyeurism is becoming a sporting event in it's own right !
