Because wikiloops.com is Wordwide we have to consider all the different time zones. Indeed, it's already May 1st somewhere. I look forward to hearing from regular and casual posters. We love to read, hear or watch what's going on in your part of the world, be it music, thoughts, feelings or observations in general. Let's make Magnificent May the best and most productive month so far. :W<3

Bluvation wrote this lovely poem in the April thread so I slotted it into the May Diary thread here smile Thank you Gerry love<3

QUOTE - I can't believe it's already May
We just got over Christmas Day
Now Valentine's is in the past
And the Easter bunny faded fast
The Wiki Diary still survives
The proof is in this years archives
With entries from our Wiki cast
Filling up the pages fast
Keep it going guys and gals
It's good to read your daily tales - UNQUOTE

May 4th is coming up...and Cinco de Mayo :)

In May we also have Mother's Day and Memorial Day. What's going on this month in your part of the world?

Oops, I hope my title didn't mislead you :D By 'Days in May' I didn't mean particular days, just your 'diary' days. But I'll go along with the special days idea.

May the 1st is actually called May Day - May Day is an ancient pagan spring festival, traditionally celebrated across Europe with maypole dancing and the crowning with a floral crown of a May Queen.

Morris Dancing is also part of the May Day celebrations
Usually men waving sticks, bells and handkerchiefs around :)

* We have a different day for 'Mothering Sunday'

Tomorrow is vappu.
Today, half of Finns are drunk and celebrating vappu. :)

https://vivefinlandia.com/en/vappu-may-day-celebration-finland/

(I've never seen a May pole, even though it's mentioned in the text. The only pole I've heard of is at a Swedish party. But it´s is part of Midsummer festival, not May Day.)

Yesterday was 'Walpurgis Night' - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night. So 'dancing into May' is actually a tradition around here...

Hi Wolfgang, your link took me all around Europe because it had no information, just more links and different spellings. Also music albums and films with that name. But it was an interesting search.....
Walpurgisnacht
Walpurgis Night
Saint Walburga's Night
Saint Walburga's Eve
Saint Walpurgis' Eve
Saint Walpurga's Day
Saint Walburga's Day
Saint Walburgis' Day
Feast of Saint Walpurga
Feast of Saint Walburga
Vappu
Valborg
Burning of the Witches

I did notice that Vappu (Aito mentioned) was connected. It was connected to a religious ceremony but was historically remembering the burning of witches (bonfires). Now it seems it's more of a 'pub crawl' (British) for many haha!

You are right. I think the name has been transferred from German to Swedish and from there to Finnish.

This is an old holiday, but at least in Finland it became a working class day after World War II. In the 70s it still had great political meaning.

Now all that is left is alcohol, helium balloons and, with luck, beautiful weather.

Had to delete my last post as the attachment was too small, I'll try again later :)

I don't know why but I keep waking really early. I have a little lamp to switch on because it's still dark and I don't want to disturb anyone. It changes colour in a cycle, very pretty, but I noticed that when it was on red, it gave out hardly any light at all. This reminded me of many years ago when I used to develop my own camera film in a little darkroom room where I used a red light. I wished I'd carried on with that hobby but like so many other hobbies it was just a passing phase. Music making has probably been the longest lasting pastime :W

I actually *do* want to get up early, to let out the cat. So I installed an app called 'Suntimes' - see https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.forrestguice.suntimeswidget/ - to wake me up at sunrise ;)

Yeah, did that as well, together with my late brother who had a "Durst" enlarger. So I developed Ilford films like FP4 and HP5 and made some prints of the good ones... good times.

I still have an "analog" (film) camera and even some b&w films, see here:

but now I don't develop or enlarge them myself anymore...

And yes, for me it is also music first, then photography :)

How wonderful to capture the image of this vulnerable creature up close. My garden has been busy with birds ; from a tiny, timid Robin to a big, greedy Magpie.

Sunday May 4th has become famous for sounding like May the Force (be with you) a phrase from Star Wars, and now commonly used to wish someone good luck or express well wishes.

* It's a Bank Holiday in the UK now, I don't know if other Countries have 'Bank Holidays' ? I remember these days (and weeks) used to be family getaway opportunities, shops and businesses were often closed ; now you hardly notice any difference.

* Nice to see Summery sounding loops coming through, I had fun adding a cheeky 'Bikini' lyric to one :D. I also posted a video on You Tube about Summer holidays which has done quite well - looking through my files I have a song for every Season, and most days of the week / special dates, I see many wikiloopers are also inspired by dates and times.

* Have to go buy a new lawnmower and microwave now, I was hoping to do away with the lawn but that won't happen for a while I fear :@

Accompanied `she who must be obeyed` on her shopping trip in Hamburg yesterday. A highly educational experience if you`re interested in skin care products and other things the world in general and me in particular can not do without - or so I`m told. Went to this shop - pardon me, this temple of beauty care products - where I started comparing the price of a hand lotion to the latest Presonus 64 channel mixing desk (the mixer came out tops).

Mistaking my interest, the resident beauty product advisory expert (RBPAE) asked the lady by my side if she agreed that my hands urgently needed a massage and some ointment. A minute later I was seated and had some unspeakable things done to my hands, all apparently for my own good. My mistrust in this whole affair started to grow when the assistant (probably with the title Ass. RBPAE) trotted along with a camera in her hand and started taking pictures.

If in the coming months you see adds by L'OCCITANE featuring yours truely, please keep in mind that I participated only because I`m blessed with a lady who doesn`t complain that I spend so much time on Wikiloops. Having my hands covered in sticky gooey stuff containing minute traces of almonds, sugar crystals (and entrails of squirrels for all I care) seems a small price to pay for my freedom.

-I didn't play bass for a couple of days. There was something wrong with my ear and I felt pressure inside it.
Now my ear feels better and I played for many hours today.

-I had been practicing the fifth level of ecrima for six months, but I didn't go to the seminar, so the head coach from England couldn't see my technique. It's a shame that I couldn't go and now I have to wait another six months for the next seminar.

Well, on the other hand, I wouldn't have understood any of his instructions. English accents are difficult to understand.

-The team I supported in ice hockey lost yesterday in the sixth game of the final. Now I have to listen and watch the happy people who remind me of the loss, because I live in the city of the winning team.

I was just looking for something to add lyrics and vocals to. I never know which way to go. Although I often produce lightweight/throw away adds, I sometimes get into thoughtful, dark, emotional places. Mostly the titles inspire me. I don't think I'm a particularly good singer but adding 'character' can mask that :)

I just wondered if other people had this same indecision, split personality? :o How do you decide which templates to work on? Are you always waiting for something that allows you to add your signature stamp..... or do you enjoy trying new ideas regardless of how well (or badly) they may turn out. Maybe it depends on your mood at any given time or perhaps you always look out for certain people to jam with !

In 'the real world' I'm still confused and frustrated - I think it's the realisation that the lack of purpose and direction in life has resulted in a stalemate of lethargy and wallowing - getting up off one's ass gets harder as you get older - motivation (and energy) dwindle :(

The anniversaries of victory in battle are celebrated today ; I'm not sure I like the reason for the celebrations but I suspect they're more about having a good time than remembering the original events... which mostly were not happy days.

Was in Luxemburg on Saturday with Mrs. Gee and my beloved sister.

Went to Burg Beaufort there, very nice restored castle. Inside were some nice displays. They had a cartoon competition displayed in one of the big rooms. I found it very cliche-heavy and boring. Yawn. Big bad TV big bad social media big bad news. Yawn. If you don't like it, turn it off. Scroll on. Search for cat videos, stop whining, that's what I thought to myself. But that's just old me.

Ate a HUGE portion of waffle with icecream and whiped cream. probably had a sugar rush :D

Came home, and nickel electro plated my first part ever. Looks good. I feel like I am a mad scientist chemist now because I mixed vinegar essence, table salt and used electricity to plate stuff. Muahahahha !!!! :D :D :D

5th of May, Cinco de Mayo

-been taking some time away from playing, still reading the forums though :)
-enjoyed Costco's/Kirkland's version of a Mimosa in a bottle yesterday, it was quite good. tart and sweet, and you couldn't really taste liquor all that much...could be dangerous.
-back at work today, taking a break from email responses.
-my poor little Gizmo fell off the couch yesterday (him and Gertie were both trying to get to me), he came down at an odd angle and couldn't get his feet out in front of him and smacked his head on the tile floor. it sounded bad. he was concussed for about 5 minutes, loss of balance. he's doing better, but it was scary.
-we went to the casino on Saturday, i was able to win $420, which basically paid for my car registration tags due this month, i guess luck was on my side.
-i put up a shade over the weekend as well, it will be getting hot soon, the fabric/shade cloth will help keep this one area a bit cooler.
-well, that's about all...back to the grind!

I gave up and went to see the doctor to ask what was wrong with my ears.

I had an infection in one ear. Also, my blood pressure had gone up a lot
Well..I had wondered why I always felt strange being outside, but only now did I realize that it was because I was dizzy all the time due to high blood pressure.

So no music for a couple of days. Maybe then I can play bass again when my ear is healthy.

Spent the past couple of days dividing my time between my job and my carer role. That accounts for 20hrs each day. Still, I`m bound to get a couple of hours sleep some time ... this week...I hope.

In between I got a few minutes to follow up on a suggestion that I create a proper cover/inlet for the "Scenes" album as a present for someone. Did a first draft just to see what the printers make of it.
