We all must have 'earworm' songs (something catchy that runs continually through your mind) But no matter how good they are they can drive us mad :o
Have any of YOUR songs got earworm riffs, melodies or even lyrical phrases that stayed with your listeners. Tell us !

Which earworms from commercial songs come to you often, out of the blue ?
A few popular ones are :- YMCA - 9 to 5 - parts of Bohemian Rhapsody - We are the champions - The great escape theme tune - Hey Jude - Who let the dogs out and Jingle Bells.
Sorry if these sparked of earworms for you again :)

Mine are a bit more from the jazzy genre... Moanin', So What?, Song For My Father, Blue Bossa, that kind of stuff...
One song from here strikes me out of the blue from time to time, it's this one:

Lol earworms, another GREAT subject Shamika :W
I got an earworm almost every day, usually it starts when I wake up and some song nests inside my brain for the whole day. It is usually something I listened to the day before. When I was working on the Herring King album it was always the last song that I worked on in the evening, but that is understandable after listening to it 50 times the day before. But usually it is some annoying or silly song that drives me crazy. Last week it was ACDC's Big B*** song, that chorus tormented me all day long :D
By the way, for me it is always a singing phrase, I don't think I ever got an instrumental one - or do you get them instrumental worms, too??

Normally I hear someone say a phrase in normal conversation, could be something like "I'm tired of waiting" and I launch into the old Kinks song. I'm annoyed I can't remember any instrumental riffs but a bass riff catches my ear more than a treble.

it's probably queued off daily conversation for me, or maybe an item. like if i put on a shirt I like, it's Right Said Fred "Im too sexy for my shirt". or if kids are playing and someone falls down or wipes out...the bassline starts and it's "Another one bites the dust". stuff like that :D or favorite movies i've seen over and over, like Battleship, ACDC's Thunderstuck (riff line and song) will stay with me for a bit. hearing a wah guitar sound, it's Steve Vai's Bad Horsie and the movie Crossroads that gets stuck with me.

Damn this infectious earworm to the depths of hell from whence it came.

I honestly believe Satan himself wrote that song to inflict misery and pestilence upon me.It will stay in my head for weeks driving me to the dark edge of madness.
The only known cure to get it out of ones head....

I really like your responses rootshell because You always seem to say/remember what I wish I thought of.
I know someone who is very deaf and can't hear music anymore but he still gets earworms from way way back, like nursery rhymes from his childhood.

Joking aside, Maniac has been a menace to me. It will linger for days on end with no cure. Its the chorus part (Shes a maniac...MANIIIIIAC!)
The other one that really gets me but is not as bad as "Maniac",is this one. It will dominate all thoughts for the next four or five days by the end of the song. I heard this the first time swimming at the gym and noticed everyone excercising in beat with it and they played it on all the televisions non stop. Couldnt get this modernized earworm virus out my head no matter what i did.

Thanks TeeGee, beginning to wish I hadn't started this thread now with a whole bunch of earworms woken up :) Looking at that list I notice that several of them have now become Football Anthems and chants - and they have to be catchy!
