Three of my selections involve one band noone's heard of :
Conjure One.

Annoying: Okay first off , Im proud to be American. I am a military vet, I am the first to stand and patriotically salute the American flag. I love my country.
However in recent years this song has become popular at U.S. summer events and sometimes they play it instead of the national anthem. "Hate" and "despise" dont even cover my feelings towards this absolute shit song.If Im in the back seat of a car, I will literally jump over the seat and cause an accident to turn it off. I refuse to stand for it and have been called a "commie" and " unAmerican" and even was threatened with arrest by drunk people because blood shoots out my eyeballs and I get very loud and disrupt it and mock it when they play it instead of the national anthem at large public events.
Im being serious..no exaggeration. I turn into the devil hearing it.

The song SUCKS. The artist who sings it SUCKS. The record company executive who produced this garbage SUCKS. Its a shitty artificial song for evoking hollow sentiment in drunk lazy people who dont know the first thing about patriotism or being proud of their country. I keep my anger in check very well but just hearing three notes of this turns me into a psychotic violent lunatic. I hate this song to the depths of my soul. Did I mention it SUCKS? Phoney Patriotism for Phoney People.

Yeah, that song sounds really cliché and corny and the video is too. I think here in France, a song like that would be immediately mocked and parodied. I understand your point.
I remember hearing this one some years ago, I don't know what you think of it, but I find it hilariously cliché and quite embarrassing at the same time (given the subject matter). Yeah that video is just as cringe. Thats the latest word here in the states for something thats supposed to mean well but is downright stupid..."Cringe".

If someone ran over my dog , I dont think I would even get close to the angry reaction I have for that song. Im being serious in that if I hear any recognizable notes of this, I want to destroy the speakers it is playing from.

I think it has something to do with my hatred for the Garth Brooks song "Friends in Low Places" which is the biggest drunk anthem in music history.
For many decades , if you walked into any drinking establisment, the most obnoxious drunks would play that song and sing very badly enough for me to stop going to bars forever. Thats the closest song that got under my skin, but the Lee Greenwood song is beyond just a "song that annoys me".

When I go somewhere with thousands of people and they are standing saluting a flag , I swore an oath to, and this badly written piece of audio sewage is substituted for a moment thats supposed to bring people together for love of their country I lose it.
The guy who wrote it , was always a D list artist, and its such a syrupy, cheesy song yet hes made millions off it. ARGHHHHHH.
It wasnt until recently I found a facebook group of military people who share my hate so Im not alone and there are more of us then I originally thought.


As for John Lennon , the obvious annoying thing is Yoko Onos singing. I personally think the record companies should refund 50% of what they made off the albums back to anyone whos ever purchased them because all the albums are 50% her screaching and only half the albums are actually Lennon.

But the MAIN reason I dislike his solo career was many years ago, a Chicago music engineer named Pete Leonardi who worked with the Stones, pointed out the amount of reverb on all his albums. Its enough to give someone a headache. I get literal headaches from his albums.
Lennon loved Phil Spector so he would bury the songs to cover up very very bad performances and sloppy mixing becase, if he wasnt having mental mommy issues and anger issues, he was drowning in heroin and cocaine.This translated into very bad productions and the fix was "drown it all in reverb like a motown album!"

But being hes John Lennon and a Beatle, everyone thought he was "genius". But fact is the performances are god aweful.He was very lazy thats just a fact. The entire band were his current party/drug buddies who were hanging out at the studio when it was recorded.

Imagine no reverb ...its easy if you try.....John and his cocaine /heroin entourage play a song.

The performance is VERY sloppy, the mix is very unbalanced but reverb hides everything.
I think it made number #1 but its only because it was from an ex Beatle in 1970.
The song idea is fine, but compared to a Beatles song, this is not up to caliber. The bass player is BP Fallon who admitted he never played a bass and only did what they showed him. He and John were on a three day coke binge when they recorded this video.


That leads us to this next abomination. Its his worst album ever.. You can see the song titles. Lovely. But in 1974 it was okay for John Lennon to be racist because hes John Lennon...a BEATLE DAMMIT!. If he uses a racist word..rest assured, its for the sake of art!
Was Lennon really a racist...absolutley not.
Did he use racist words to cause controversy so people would listen and talk about his crappy album...oh hell yes.

This album is reverb soaked crap. The song titles are only there to be assholes and piss everyone off.Lennon loved doing that.

A side note: This album also contains the infamous Frank Zappa incident. Lennon and Zappa played two Zappa compositions live at Madison Square Garden. Lennon recorded it, renamed the songs and stole the credits from Frank and it all makes up the second disk of the double album.

He Never paid Zappa a royalty. Zappa however had the evidence they were his songs but he let Lennon slide but would never play with Lennon again. There is a youtube video with Zappa explaining the entire incident. The recordings on this album are bootleg quality at best further yet illustrating Lennons laziness and lack of any effort to even care about sound quality. He knew any shit he put out would sell because hes an ex Beatle.
The entire second album is badly recorded audio of two really long 15 minute boring jams he did with Zappa and recorded on a two channel reel to reel deck. There was zero thought put into cleaning any of the audio up.

Now.....Lennons Piece de Resistance!
How about 45 minutes of sound effects in no coherent order? But you can stare at the album cover which has them standing butt naked . THE TWO VIRGINS ALBUM!
He was literally putting the worst garbage out that he could, to break the Beatles. The guy was still in the greatest band in the world, yet he was putting out garbage like this to break up the band because his heroin junkie girlfriend told him to. These two are the original Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

There is ZERO music. Its all random sound effect loops for 45 minutes.YAWN. But because hes John Lennon everyone talks themselves into believing its "an artistic statement".
He was a junkie when he did this. There was no "Artistic statement". John Lennon is the original Duke of Sussex and Yokos his Meghan Markle.

The Beatles are legendary but there was discipline and a quality expectation with them to put out great music.
Once that was gone, he became a junkie, who had alot of money and time but nobody to self check his lame brain ideas. A commen problem with artists and exactly why they have one or two good albums then suddenly drop from the public eye.
They start believing their greatness and it all goes down from there.

People will always worship him but in the end he was a very flawed human being with anger issues. His "genius" was because some very good people knew how to get it out of him despite his self abuse.
When they left , everything he did was just lazy self absorbed B grade material DROWNED in reverb to cover the bad production quality becaue the mixing process lets face it was just a huge cocaine orgy. Lennon turned into Lazy Elvis. IMHO

I must admit, I am a bit of a reverb lover (if it's done right) it can sweeten a flat vocal... but with the recording equipment they had it seems like overkill I guess.

Reverb should be considered "Use with Caution". Motown and Phil Spector used it for hundreds of number #1 songs but
1. There was no stereo then everything was mono. Audio quality was much lower and it was used to add depth to the songs. As audio systems became more "hi fidelity", it became obselete and other methods replaced it. Its very well documented Lennon had no interest in audio quality of his albums. He was technically in the 1950s despite 1974 being the golden age of very high fidelity stereo equipment. His albums paled compared to Pink Floyd and others.

2. Too much gives people headaches OR else music people will think your trying to hide something.It is very easy to misuse because it truly does "make everything sound better".

Nowadays if you do hear lots of reverb they call it a "Low Fi Recording". Some people can take that and hey thats great..rock and roll. Also a splash of it on a vocal , or snare drum is great! A splash...not soaking in it where it sounds like your listenig to something 100 feet down the Grand Canyon.

But mass population FM radio stations, Spotify and etc...modern day engineers use DELAY to create the illusion of space on an instrument or song. Reverb is used but alot less dthen the 60's or 70's and its usually considered a "grunge" or "indie"style sound when you do hear it.

Always eeeeaaaaasssssyyyy with that Reverb knob is sound advice. But Delay is the new Reverb . There are youtube videos on replacing reverb with delay effects.

Listen to the John Lennon and the Plastic Ono band (1970)album.
It has some good songs..."God", "Mother" "Working Class HEro".
Its an angry album but after an hour youll see what I mean about the reverb getting annoying.
The entire album sounds like your listening inside a concrete tunnel.
I used to have a huge record collection and let people pick albums to play. Lennon usually is good for 3-4 songs then will usually get changed to something less depressing.

From a technical standpoint, Reverb is like Autotune.
Itdoes make everything "sound better". But there lies the problem.
People will naturely overuse it and misuse it to the point it becomes cliche and obnoxious because its on everything even if it doesnt need it. Lennon to me is A number one example of misuse.

I will listen to your track when I am home in my home studio so I can hear it properly.
